Inside every cookie there's a slip of paper. Today, one is yours.
What is a fortune cookie?
A fortune cookie is a thin, crisp vanilla wafer folded while still hot around a small slip of paper. The slip carries a saying (a piece of advice, a proverb or a light prediction) and usually a row of lucky numbers. In the United States they arrive with the check at almost every Chinese restaurant, yet the cookie's roots are in Japan.
This site recreates the whole ritual: tap the cookie, it snaps in two, the slip slides out and you read your fortune. Every slip comes with six lucky numbers from 1 to 49 and a Chinese word with its pinyin, just like the real thing.

How this cookie works
- Your first cookie each day is the cookie of the day. Everyone gets the same fortune until midnight, so you can talk about it with anyone.
- After that, open as many as you like. Fortunes are drawn at random from 96, split into eight categories: luck, love, work, friendship, motivation, proverbs, travel and funny ones.
- Your collection lives in your browser. Find all 96 fortunes, keep your streak by coming back each day and unlock achievements. One in twenty cookies comes out golden.
Fortunes and numbers are random and meant for fun. They predict nothing and are not meant for gambling.
